Who is an Influencer?
You
may have heard the term "Influencer”. So, an Influencer is someone who can persuade a potential customer to buy
a product or service by recommending or promoting it. It has been shared on
social media. Influencers have become a significant trend since the rise of Social
Media.
What is Social Media
Influencer?
A Social Media Influencer is someone who has a lot of followers
online and who is an expert or has authority in a particular subject. Due to their authenticity and reach,
social media Influencers have access to a large audience and can persuade them.
Influencers can influence others’ purchasing behavior due to their power, knowledge, role, and connection with/her audience.
A
fan base in a specific niche with whom he/she actively interacts the size of
the following is determined by the size of his/her niche topic.
Types of Social Media Influencers:
We
divided the social media influencers into three categories and each category has
its own type:
- According to the number of followers
- According to types of content
- According to the level of influence
According to the number of followers:
o
Mega Influencers:
Technically, Mega Influencers are people who have a large number of
followers on their Social Networks. They have more than 1 million followers on Social Media accounts. However, Mega
Influencers usually gained fame offline.
And most of
the Mega Influencers are Celebrities like Sportspeople,
Singers, TV Actors, Brand Models, Musicians, etc. Most of the major
Brands approach Mega Influencers for their marketing and they pay them. Mega
Influencers are extremely expensive.
o
Macro Influencers:
Macro Influencers are relatively easy to access as
compared to Mega Influencers. They are one step back to Mega Influencers.
It is pretty
easy for brands to get access to them and Macro Influencers are not much costly.
It is easy to communicate with them. They also consider celebrities. The number
of followers they usually have are approximately 50,000 to 1 million followers on their social media accounts. The
number of Macro Influencers is more than the Mega influencers on social media.
However, this category is most likely to be involved with influencer fraud.
o
Micro-Influencers:
Micro-Influencers are ordinary people who have become
well-known for their expertise in a particular niche. Micro-Influencers are
defined as having approximately 1000 to
40,000 followers on a single social site. They are most likely to bind
around their particular niche.
A micro-influencer may be unaware of the existence of a company until that company
attempts to contact him/her. The company or a brand must first persuade the influence
of its worth. However, Micro-Influencers are the future influencers.
o
Nano Influencers:
Nano Influencers have a small number of followers on
their social media platforms. It is like most of the Nano Influencers are in a progress state they are struggling to reach their maximum point. They have
almost 1000 followers on social
media sites.
Most of the
major brands or companies do not collaborate with them. Probably, they
don’t have enough power to be really useful. However, to reach a large audience
in most niches, you would need to collaborate with hundred of Nano Influencers,
despite the fact that they may be inexpensive and have a significant impact on
a tiny number of individuals.

According to types of content:
o
Bloggers:
Blogging means “online self-publishing” which included text writing, photography,
videos, and other media stuff like that. If we compare Blogging with real life,
a great example of this is writing a diary.
And a blogger
writes articles on particular topics and published them online. Somehow, we can
consider Bloggers as Influencers because they both have a strong connection with
their audience or you can say their fans. Major brands and companies are now
encouraging them.
On the
Internet you can search a lot of Blogs for example you can easily find a blog
about Music, health, food, fashion, and
blogging itself.
o
YouTubers:
For sure, the blog is not the only way to get knowledge about specific topics or
subjects, people like to get information through videos as well. Even though,
people are usually attracted to the visual content rather than the article
form content.
Rather than
creating their own websites, people build their own YouTube channels. And brands also communicate and collaborate with
popular YouTube content creators.
o
Podcasters:
Podcasting is
rapidly gaining popularity on social media platforms.
A person who
makes an audio or video recording on different topics and puts it on the
internet is called Podcaster.
According to the level of Influence:
o
Celebrities:
Celebrities were
the very first influencers, and they continue to play a role, though their
priority as influencers is slowly decreasing. Celebrity endorsement spawned
influencer marketing. For several years, businesses have discovered that when a
celebrity promotes or endorses their product, their sales generally increase.
Many companies, especially high brands, continue to use celebrity endorsers as
influencers.
